Throughout the last year of weddings at our luxurious West Virginia wedding venue, I have compiled a list of commonly forgotten, but essential wedding day items. With all of the excitement and numerous activities the weekend of your wedding, it's easy to overlook items that can affect your wedding day. To help you avoid any unexpected stress, here’s a friendly reminder of 10 items that couples often forget.
1. USB Cube for Connection to Your LED Neon Signs
Neon signs have become a wedding day staple, but they require a power source to shine. Often, the sign remains in the box to avoid damage, and couples feel it's one item off their extensive wedding day checklist. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a neon sign come with the correct connection to directly plug into the wall. Most of these signs have a USB at the end of the cord and require a cube to actually plug into the wall. This leaves couples scrambling the weekend of their wedding to find a cube to actually be able to turn their sign on. Your glowing sign with your names should be a bright symbol of your love, not a source of stress! So double check your neon signs power source and pack an extra cube!
2. Correct Undergarments
Comfort and fit are essential on your wedding day, especially with all the photos being taken. Make sure to pack the right undergarments. Think about supportive shapewear, the perfect bra inserts, or even that comfortable pair of underwear that boosts your confidence.
For brides, the difference in how a dress fits with proper undergarments can be dramatic. Take a moment to prioritize this and then double and triple check it is in your bag before heading to our Charleston, West Virginia wedding venue!
3. Scissors, String, & Batteries for Decorating
You've meticulously planned your wedding day décor, but don’t underestimate the importance of having the right tools once you are at your wedding venue putting everything together. Items like scissors, string, and spare batteries are often left off the checklist but are vital in setting up decorations. Especially for our ceremony site, since it's an outdoor wedding venue in West Virginia, I highly recommend bringing zip ties or fishing line to tie down your decor to prevent a mishap during your ceremony. A small toolkit including these supplies can save the day during decorating. It's always better to not need it and have it, then not have it and need it.
4. Cake Cutter/Server
The cake cutting ceremony is a highlight of the wedding. Don’t forget to bring a cake cutter and server. Whether you prefer an elegant gold set or something more casual, having your own serving ware ensures you're not scrambling last minute to figure out how to cut and serve your beautiful wedding cake.
5. Water or Water Bottles
Staying hydrated is vital on such a busy day! Amid the nerves and celebration, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water so I highly recommend having water accessible in the bridal suite and groom's lounge. If you see it sitting there while you are getting ready, you are way more likely to drink it.
It is also easy to forget that your guests need water! This small detail often goes unnoticed until your wedding guests are asking your bartender if they have any water.
6. Flat Lay Items
Your wedding photographer will be eager to capture all the details of your big day, including your wedding details. Having flat lay items organized and ready for your photographer can help you create stunning picture-perfect arrangements and make your wedding day less stressful.
Reach out to your photographer for a list of their suggested items to include in your wedding details. Common items include the invitations, perfume, vow books, jewelry and even your bouquet. These small additions can enhance your wedding album and create beautiful keepsakes.
7. Containers or Baggies for Leftovers
Weddings tend to generate more food than able to be consumed. To avoid waste and ensure everyone enjoys those tasty leftovers, bring along some sturdy containers or baggies. Labels or a sharpie to label the food can also be helpful when packaging up food. No one ever turns down delicious leftovers, including me!
8. Tips for Vendors
Gratuities can slip one's mind in the hustle and bustle of the wedding weekend. Organize and label your tips in envelopes beforehand, and ensure they are in your bags before departing for your Charleston, WV wedding venue.
Make a list of whom you plan to tip and the corresponding amounts. You may wish to delegate this responsibility of handing out your tips to a reliable and trustworthy friend or family member to remove the stress from your shoulders while you focus on enjoying your wedding day.
9. Rings!!!
Your wedding rings are the ultimate symbols of your commitment, and it’s surprisingly easy to forget them amid all the busy wedding weekend. We have had two weddings forget their wedding bands in the past year!
Make sure you have your rings before heading to your wedding venue and then designate a trustworthy person to keep track of the rings on the big day. Please, do not give your actual rings to your ringbearer. It is a good idea to give your rings to your best man and maid of honor and let your ring bearer either carry faux rings or a cute sign instead! You want your “I do’s” to go off without a hitch.
10. Marriage License
No wedding is complete without the marriage license—it's the legal foundation of your union. Forgetting this document could derail your plans.
Before the big day, confirm the requirements for obtaining a marriage license in West Virginia. Store it in a safe place, and make sure a reliable person is designated to bring it along to avoid any last-minute worries.
